Summary:

In the peer review article “Women Reveal, Men Conceal” A study was conducted to show how men and women both have infidelity issues within a relationship. It was hypothesized that women in a committed relationship would be more likely to reveal their relationship to a potential EPC partner. It was hypothesized that men in a committed relationship, in contrast, would conceal their relationship from a potential EPC partner. Contemporary reports indicate that anywhere from 30% to 70% of those involved in a committed, romantic dyad have sexually cheated on a partner. This study included 584 participants 262 men and 322 women who reported having a heterosexual orientation an additional n 42 reporting a non heterosexual orientation were excluded from analyses. Participants were solicited from Amazon Mechanical Turk sampling (n 287 and by postings on social media and through snowball email sampling of colleagues and acquaintances of the investigators across the nation 297. Respondents were giving questions such as how many people have you slept with, while you were in a committed relationship, have you ever attempted to actively look to have sexual intercourse with someone other than your committed partner? The results showed that women were more likely to disclose to their partner, But more women in the study had cheated compared to the men.

Response:

I think this study was a great idea, there were questions asked that brought people out of their comfort zone which is always a good thing. I just think that it could have been conducted a lot better and that the data might be really misleading. The amount of people that were surveyed for this study creates a bias. “There were only 548 participants, 262 men and 322 women” The number of women far outweighed the men making the result to fall in favor of the men since there weren't that many of them. Secondly, it was mentioned that “ women are more likely to disclose their long term relationship to their EPC partner because they know that men will accept a short term offer”. For this statement to be true I believe that EPC partner should have been experimented on too, That way the information can be verified. Not to mention the EPC partner plays a big role in this experiment. The EPC partner should have been presented with the same questions as the participants. Since this wasn’t done the responses by the participants are all hypothetical and really doesn't reveal much perspectives.
