Hidden Figures is a movie based on a true story about three African American women mathematicians. They work for NASA at the height of the space race in the 1960’s. These women struggle with segregational policies and male dominance in the field and proving the impact of people overlooked in history. NASA’s mission portrays the equality movement for people of color in this time period and the racism they had to overcome, exposing feminism throughout the movie plot. This is where I was able to understand more from what I’ve learned in class about feminism. Now a days feminists movements consist of nude protests and male hatred, but Hidden Figures expresses what feminism truly is. This film portrays a lot of struggle that one has to go through to accomplish their goals and I think that’s an important message we saw a lot in our readings in class, the struggles women went through in history to accomplish their goals. I realize that in history there were things women could do that men could not and it was hard to overlook the male dominance. These women stood up and expressed their ideas and it showed a lot of confidence and empowerment. Today I appreciate the sacrifices women made to accomplish where we are today. This is a great inspirational movie, I suggest watching it! -Kelly
