Although our main focus on this website is Beyoncé, there are many other women who embrace women empowerment and equality as well. Demi Lovato is a famous artist, her song “Confident” is really a message to all women to be confident in yourself and have self-love. Demi is a very empowering woman who has struggled herself with self-love and self-image, but through her music you can see her becoming confident in herself and embracing who she is, confident, "whenever I make an album and try to think of a name," Demi said. "I always look to the track list and what song represents this album the most, and not only did it represent my entire album, but it represented where I am in my life, so it was a very, very easy choice." Even the background music and the way she sings the lyrics in her song, Confident shows power. She includes lyrics like; “I make my own choice”, “I run this show”, and she repeats the phrase, “what’s wrong with being confident?”. I think this song really represents women empowerment in a sense of her confidence and lyric choices for this song.
I think it is important to recognize that there is more than just one famous woman trying to relay the message of women equality and women empowerment through her work. There are so many powerful and amazing women out there who are trying to portray the same message. In the song, Confident, Demi really portrays a powerful voice in the way she sings her lyrics and her background music choice sounded bold. I think her song was a great song in expressing women confidence and I think it’s important for women to listen to these lyrics and understand that. I think her music also relates back to our topic on Beyoncé and the issues we talk about in sex & resistance, the power of messages for women, their need of reminder to build confidence in themselves. Being a woman is a battle in so many different parts of life, and through history especially, and being able to love who you are, love what you look like and being able to love yourself as a woman is what makes you confident and self-loving and I think that’s what Demi Lovato, Beyoncé, and many other inspirational women are trying to express in their music. Now, take a moment a listen to Demi’s song Confident! -Kelly
